A brief history on the artisan, Ernest Forrest Jr. Ernie is no stranger to wood working. At 42, He has worked as a carpenter his whole life mostly custom homes. He started out working at his fathers' construction business as a teen. And in later years went to collage in Gunnison Colorado. While living in Colorado he worked both part time and full time as a carpenter, there he was introduced to log construction. Working with wood in its natural state has been a great creative outlet for him and gives him a sense of great pride. Ernie works with materials indigenous mostly to Pennsylvania. He uses standing dead material of Eastern red cedar, maple, cherry, etc. as well as Pennsylvania mountain laurel and rhododendron, He makes furniture to look as natural as possible as if it just grew out of the forest. |
